Trip to Bradford / Leeds 11-06-2022

Today we started in the hotel. Research for today's trip consisted at looking at bus tickets and looking at the weather, whic for was mainly dry weather with some sunshine and a few showers. Matthew got up and had a shower before we went down to the restaurant to get breakfast. Matthew had sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and beans, wshed down with a glass of orange juice. We returned to the room and we finished pacing away the rest of our stuff. When we had finished we checked out of the hotel and we put the stuff in the car. We noticed a National Express liveried coach in the car park we we walked up to investigate. It was Edwards BV22 VTP just parked up in the hotel car park.

We got in the minibus and we set off along Roydsdale Way. WE were about to turn right when we spotted a couple of coaches parked up outside of Northern Kitchen. We turned right onto Merrydale Road and Matthew took a picture of Acklams E14 ACK.

Behind this was Options YF17 UMD we turned around on the corner of the street and we headed Westwards along Merrydale Road. We crossed under the M606 and we turned right onto Staithgate Lane. We Ran Northwards up to large roundabout at Newhall and we joined the clockwise ring road. We turned right onto the A641 and we headed Northwards into town. We turned right into Hall Ings and we passed the mini bus station The Bradford hotel. We entered the Broadway shopping centre car park and we parked up on the 2nd floor. Once we had said goodby to mum we went down stairs and we came out on Market Street. We headed onto Bridge Street and we turned lef and headed into the interchange. We went the escaltors to the bus interchange and we had a quick look around to see what we could catch. We saw there was a bus ready to depart on Stand X. It was First West Yorkshire 35658 on a #72 to Leeds.

We got on the bus and we booked WY Daysaver bus tickets at £5.50 each before we went upstairs and sat down. We set off out of the Interchange onto Bridge Street we saw TLC 90730 on an unidentified service. We turned right onto the A6181 and we ran down through Barkerend and into Laisterdyke. We continued down through to Thornbury and we ran down through Pudsey. We ran alongside the B6157 and to Stanningley. We crossed a roundabout and we ran forwards onto the A647, passing quite near the First Bus Bramley depot. We continued down towards the cente of Leeds and we turned left onto Armley Road and crossed the railway. We turned left onto the A58 and we stayed on the high level road before turning right onto Westgate. We ran forwards onto The Headrow and we ran forwards onto Eastgate. We turned right onto St Peter's Street and we entered the bus station where we got up and got off the bus. Once off the bus we vivited the toilet. We exited the bus station into the coach sttion as the North end of the bus station is currently having construction work done. We exited onto St Peter's Street and we walked around the bus station. At the exit of the bus station we saw First West Yorkshire 47642 on a X27 service to Thorpe Park.

We walked back along St Peter's Street and into the coach station. We cut through into the bus station and we visited the shop. We brought a can of coke and a couple of chocolate bars for Matthew before heading back out into the bus station. We had a look around to see what we could catch. We saw First West Yorkshire 68809 on a #62 Saxton Gardens circular service.

We spotted also spotted First West Yorkshire 35634 which was on a #33 to Guiseley.

Matthew sat down and ate his Freddo and drank his can of Coke. The bus was readied for service and we go on the bus and we flashed the WY Daysaver bus tickets to the driver before going upstairs. The rear of the top deck was empty so matthew took a picture inside First West Yorkshire 35634.

We set off out of the bus station and we turned left onto St Peter's Street. We turned left onro Eastgate and we ran forwards onto Headrow. We turned left onto Park Row and we ran through the City Square and past the railway station. We continued onto Wellington Street and we ran under the A58(M). We ran forwards onto Kirkstall Road and under the railway viaduct. We ran into Burlley and quite an interesting part of town. We saw a derelict pub called the rising sun, which had clearly seen better day. We also saw a turreted end terrace which is the home to Dave's Pies and Ale. As we continued North Westwards we passed a few ghost signs on the North side of the road. We continued Northwards into Kirkstall and we stopped just after the crossroad for a short time to wait time. We then continued along the A65 past Kirkstall Abbey and near to Kirkstall Forge railway station. We continued into Horsforth and we we crossed over the A6120. We continued Northwards to Rawdon and we crossed the A658. On the roundabout we saw maroon coach AM04 SEE. We continued along the A65 and we saw Fourway coach YJ16 EKE outside The Woolpack pub. We turned left onto Greenlea Avenue and we ran down to the turning circle. After a brief stop we headed Northwards up Greenlea Avenue and we turned left onto the A65. We ran into Guseley and we continued to the Northern end of town to the stop where the service terminated. We got up and got off the bus. Matthew took another picture of First West Yorkshire 35634 before it got ready to work back towards Leeds.

Once off the bus we noticed the pub after which the bus stop was named. We walked across to the pub and at the rear was a beer garden. Uncle Dave stopped outside whilst me and Matthew went inside. Matthew used the toilet and afterwards we went to the bar and brought drinks. It had started raining, so when we went upstairs we put up the parasol unbrella in the centre of the table to shelter under. After we had finished the drinks we returned the glasses to the bar and we set off across Otley Road to the bus stop to wait for the Southbound service. First West Yorkshire 35634 was still waiting across the road. It set off around the roundabout and headed back Southwards. We turned this bus down, so that we could wait for a different bus on the #34 which was 10 minutes behind it. Whilst we waited the rain stopped and eventually we saw the bus approaching. It was First West Yorkshire 35595 on a #34 to Leeds.

We go on the bus and we flashed the WY Daysaver bus tickets to the driver before we went upstairs and we sat down. We set off along Otley Road and we ran into the centre of Guiseley. Than plan was to go down to Burley and get off to try and get pictures of the ghost signs, as well as breaking the journey and getting in extra buses. We turned left onto The Grn and we headed Northwards. We turned right onto Queensway and we ran into Yeadon. We turned left onto Kirk Lane and we ran forwards onto Wells Court. We followed the road around onto Harper lane and we crossed the roundabout and turned right onto High Street. We turned right onto the A658 and we ran forwards onto Harrogate Road. We re-joined the A65 in Rawdon and we continued Southwards towards the City. We crossed the A6120 and we ran past Kirkstall Forge railway station. We passed Kirkstall Abbey which we had a better view of on the returned journey. We ran through Kirkstall and we continued Southwards towards Burley. I had worked out that we needed to get off opposite to Asda. As we saw the Asda in the distance we pressed the bell to get off. We got up and got off the bus and Matthew took another picture of First West Yorkshire 35595 as it continued towards Leeds on the #34 service.

We set off on foot to try and find these ghost signs. We didn't spot them, so we crossed over the road and continued walking towards Leeds. When we passed Dave's Pies and Ale we realised we had gone too far and missed the signs! We decided to catch a bus back the other way for a couple of stops to find the signs. As we approached the bus stop we saw Transdev Keighley 2758 on a #60 to Keighley.

There was a bit of a gap in the service and the traffic coming out of Leeds was quite heavy. Whilst we waited Matthew sat at the bus stop and ate a Flake. Eventually the bus battled it's way through the traffic. It was First West Yorkshire 35308 on a #33 to Guiseley.

We go on the bus and we flashed the WY Daysaver bus tickets to the driver before we went upstairs and we sat down. We set off along the A65 and we went Northwards we had spotted the signs. We had actually stopped by the building to look at the bricks in the remains of a low wall! We continued to the next stop and we got up and got off the bus. Matthew took another picture of First West Yorkshire 35308 as it continued towards Guiseley.

We walked back towards the ghost sign and as we did we saw Transdev 241 on a A3 service, First West Yorkshire 35599 on a #34 to Otley and First West Yorkshire 37696 on a #508 to Halifax. We got to the sign and we took picture from across the road. We walked to the crossing and we took pictures of the ghost sign visible in the side street too. Afterwards we walked to the bus stop where we had originally got off the bus to catch something towards Leeds. A short time later we saw First West Yorkshire 32538 on a #508 to Leeds city centre.

We go on the bus and we flashed the WY Daysaver bus tickets to the driver before we went upstairs and we sat down. We set off along the A65 and we passed Dave's Pies and Ale and the Rising Sun pub. We crossed under the railway line and we crossed the A58(M). We ran forwards onto Wellington Street and we turned left onto King Street. We turned right onto The Headrow and we turned right onto Park Street where the bus terminated. We got up and got off the bus. Matthew took another picture of First West Yorkshire 32538 before it returned to Halifax on a #508 service.

We set off on foot along Park Street and we saw turning right onto The Headrow and we stopped at Greggs and we sat on a bench outside to eat the sausage roll. We washed them down with the can of Coke. When we had finished we walked back along The Headrow and we went past the former Lloyds bank. We walked onto Eastgate and we saw First West Yorkshire 69418 on a #48 to Wigton Moor.

We continued down to the roundabout and we veered left onto Duke Street. We cut through the coach station into the bus station and Matthew visited the toilet. We needed to head back towards Bradford as it was starting to get a bit late. As we waited for a bus in the right direction we saw Transdev Harrogate 1858 on a #7 to Harrogate.

A short time later we saw First West Yorkshire 35100 on a #72 to Bradford.

We got on the bus and we flashed the WY Daysaver bus tickets to the driver before going upstairs. The rear of the top deck was empty so matthew took a picture inside First West Yorkshire 35100.

We decided we would do this part way back to Bradford and then get off to get something else on a different route to ensure we got something different to what we had been on before. We set off out of the bus station and we set off onto Duke Street. We turned left onto Eastgate and we ran up the hill running forwards onto The Headrow. We continued onto Westgate and we joined the Westbound A58 (M). We crossed the River Aire and we ran under the railway line before turning right onto Canal Street. We continued onto Armley Road and the A647. We ran forwards onto Stanningley Road and close to Bramley and Pudsey railway stations. We ran through Stanningley and we re-joined the Westbound A647. We ran around the large roundabout in Thornbury and we past the KFC which is currently being refurbished. We continued onto Leeds Road we headed towards the A6177 and as we got close we got up and got off the bus. Once off the bus Matthew took another picture of First West Yorkshire 35100 as it continued towards Bradford.

We walked around the corner onto the A6177 and we stopped to look at building site where there were some interesting bricks. We crossed over the railway line and we waited for a bus towards Bradford. A short time later we saw First West Yorkshire 35227 on a #608 to Bradford.

We got on the bus and we flsahed the WY Daysaver bus tickets to the driver for the final time today. The lower saloon was empty so Matthew took a picture inside First West Yorkshire 35227.

We went upstairs and the top deck was empty too, so Matthew took another picture inside of First West Yorkshire 35227 before we sat down.

We set off up the A6177 and we turned left onto the A647. We ran to the edge of town and we ran forwards onto the A6181. We turned right Bank Street. We turned left onto Broadway and we stopped at the back of a row of buses. We got up and we got off the bus and Matthew took a picture of First West Yorkshire 35227 before it worked another #608 Holme Wood circular service.

We turned the corner onto Channing way and right onto Hall Ings. We headed back to Broadway to the exit where we came out of the shopping cente, but we could no get through the door. We walked through the shopping centre and we stopped at the toilets. We continued through the shopping centre to the stairs and we went up to level 2 and met up with mum again. We got in the car and we set off out of the car park and we turned left onto Hall Ings. We joined the Southbound A650, but we realised we were heading in the wrong direction. We turned right onto Prospect Street and we realised that Matthew hadn't had a drink so we pulled over and Matthew had a can of Irn Bru from out of the boot. We continued down Prospect Street and we contnued onto Mill Lane. We turned left onto Manchester Road and we headed Southwards. We turned left onto the anti-clockwise A6177 and we went Eastwards towards Asda. We turned right onto Burnham Avenue instead of Bierley Lane so we ran around the block via Fernand Avenue and Shetcliffe lane before stopping at the chip shop at the top of Bierley Lane. We stopped to get chips and Matthew had a jumbo sausage and chips. After we had eaten we set off doen Bierley Lane and we turned right on to Rockhill Lane. We turmed left onto Wharfdale Road. We ran forwards onto Merrydale Road and we joined the Southbound M606. We ran down to the end of the motorway and we turned right to join the Westbound M62. We ran over the top of the Pennines and I was starting to feel a little tired so we pulled into Birch services. We went to the toilet and on the way back to the car we saw Holly Bank Trust HX68 BXU.

We got back in the car and we set off onto the Westbound M62. We ran forwards onto the anti-clockwise M60 and we continued onto the Westbound M62. We joined the Southbound M6 ran through Cheshire. We came off the M6 at junction 16 and we ran down the A500. We came off the A500 at Stoke and we ran forwards onto Wheildon Road and we stopped at uncle Dave's house. Matthew drank some of uncle Rob's Irn Bru and we updated the calendar with today's trip. We said goodbye to uncle Dave and we got back in the car. We set off onto Wheildon Road and we ran forwards onto the A500. We turned left onto Church Street and we ran around the one-way system in Stoke. We turned left onto London Road and we stopped at Sainsbury's petrol station to get fuel. We continued along London Road and at Trent Vale we joined the Southbound A34. We ran under the A500 into Hanford and we continued to Trentham. We turned left onto the A5035 and we got back to Blurton around 20:15. Matthew chilled out on his computer and we did some of the Blog. We also wrote a few emails and generally used the computer to entertain ourselves. We watched TV and Matthew got ready for bed. Matthew settled down around 00:30... Mark.
